Golden Phoenix

Chinese food is one of my favorites, therefore I knew I had to make a food review on Golden Phoenix, a Chinese restaurant located at 4542 Cleveland Avenue. Every time I dine here, I always order the same thing: Honey chicken, and combination fried rice. The honey chicken is chicken with sesame seeds covered in a sweet, tasty orange sauce. The combination fried rice is rice with pork, shrimp, beef, and green onions, all of which come together to give a great, savory taste. Golden Phoenix is one of, if not, my favorite Chinese restaurants because the food is really great, and not expensive either. I truly recommend trying the food here!

Bojangles

For Thanksgiving break, my relatives from North Carolina came to visit. They didn't come empty handed however, bringing a box of fresh Bojangles that they bought along the way here. When I realized they bought some for us, I was totally hyped, not because they brought food, but because Bojangles means a lot to me. What most people don't know about me is that I'm originally from Charlotte, North Carolina. Bojangles is also from Charlotte, being founded in the Queen City in 1977. I used to eat it when I lived in North Carolina, until I moved here to Ohio. I only have Bojangles when I visit my relatives in Charlotte because the fast food restaurant only serves in the Southeastern region of the country, and not here in Ohio. Every time I have Bojangles, I always have memories from when I used to live in North Carolina, and I feel like I'm still living there when I eat it as well. One day when I was discussing another paper with my English professor, Mr. Ryder, we talked a

Insomnia Cookies

After OH Pizza and Brew, my friend Justin and I decided to drive to Insomnia Cookies, located at 2209 North High Street. It was the first time purchasing Insomnia Cookies for the both of us, so we didn't know what to get at first. In the end, Justin got a couple of chocolate chunk cookies, while I got a cookiewich, mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwiched by a triple chocolate deluxe, and a chocolate chunk cookie. We both loved the cookies, since they were freshly baked and soft; I loved the cookiewhich because everything came together perfectly. We both truly recommend this place when you're craving cookies, ice cream, or both at night.

OH Pizza and Brew

While our friend Nick was working, my friend Justin and I decided to dine-in at his workplace. He works at OH Pizza and Brew, but since their newest location hasn't opened yet, they're currently selling food via food truck. We bought a 14" pepperoni pizza and split it, while our friend Nick was the one who made the pizza. The pizza was very appealing and well made for a first impression. The crust was very soft and great, while the pizza overall was tasteful and filling. If you're looking for a tasty appetizer, I truly recommend getting a pizza from this restaurant!

Taqueria Guadalajara

Today I went to Taqueria Guadalajara, which is a Mexican restaurant located at 6140 Cleveland Avenue. I ordered a burrito of carne asada with beans, rice, lettuce, and tomatoes, with a side of cut carrots and radishes. I also ordered horchata for my beverage, and I was not let down. Everything was delicious, from the horchata tasting "perfect", to the burrito being rich and tasteful. I also ordered three tacos and they were outstanding. The tacos were literally made to perfection, and they tasted even better after adding lime to them. I truly recommend coming to this restaurant if you're craving Mexican food.

Vegemite

Today for class my english professor, Mr. Ryder, brought in Vegemite for us to try. I've been waiting for this day because he's been talking about it for weeks now, from showing us commercials to expressing his joy from when he ordered the yeast extract online. Mr. Ryder proudly prepared slices of toast covered with Vegemite and butter for those who wanted to try the Australian product. To get the full experience, I decided to take a bite from the area with the most Vegemite. Before we even tried the product, Mr. Ryder first passed around the jar for us to smell, and the jar smelled like cocoa for some reason, but with a strong scent. After taking a bite, all I could taste was pure salt and a bit of oil, which at first was not pleasant, but after a while it somewhat tasted good. I was not let down by Vegemite, as it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I would try it again, but I would not be able to have it every day as the Aussies do.

El Sabor de mi Tierra

Today I had the opportunity to visit El Sabor de mi Tierra, which is located at 2649 Northland Plaza road, one of the small businesses in the area. The El Salvadorian restaurant is one of my favorite hispanic restaurants to go to because they make the best pupusas in the city. Coming from a central american background, it's no surprise that I love the food that this restaurant serves. Other great items that they sell are fried banana, horchata, and tamales de pollo. Dining in gives you this feeling as if you're in El Salvador, so it's best to say El Sabor de mi Tierra really has it going for them. For this review, I ordered 5 pupusas and a horchata to drink with them, and I was not let down. I immediately tasted authentic, homemade, and savory flavor after having some bites. I was planning on ordering some fried banana with cream as a dessert, but I was already full from the pupusas. If you ever feel like having central american food, I highly recommend coming here!
